Buying enough Mac for LrC without wasting money

Hi Michael, many thanks for your extensive reply. 32GB, maybe, or likely enough, at least for now. 16GB: no it's not enough as I have 16GB now and the swap file is growing and as soon as this starts, my system performance for Lr is going down. Take into account that I also use Photoshop...

Buying enough Mac for LrC without wasting money

Hi Dennis, thanks for your reply and good to hear I'm not the only one struggling a bit with the 2013 machines. :D I am contemplating on getting a new MBP within the near future. The thing is that I like to keep my gear for as long as possible, not just to save money but also to minimise...

Any suggestions for workflow for those who use Apple / Mac Photos to import regularly to Lightroom Classic

Only the 12/13 pro max can shoot ProRAW. But you can shoot (normal / plain) RAW using a 3rd party app such as Halide. However, a normal RAW file requires more work to come close to the Apple HEIC/jpeg and you won't be able to achieve the Apple Deep Fusion / HDR even by editing such a normal RAW...

iPhone 13 pro Max? Is the 14 PM (R)evolutionary?

Thank you Cletus. So you went the exact same route as I am contemplating: from iPhone 11 to 13 pro. May I ask how you would rate the 13 pro photo experience? Also very important: do you use Apple ProRAW (using the Apple camera app? Other?) or the plain LR mobile RAW files? Any pros (and...

iPhone 13 pro Max? Is the 14 PM (R)evolutionary?

Passing along my iPhone 11 to my daughter this weekend. Looking to get a pro Max model for size, photo quality (and battery). Any first hand experience here re 13 pro Max photo quality and workflow? Or I could wait for the rumoured 48mp iPhone 14 pro max. The iPhone I buy now/next I wish to...

Any suggestions for workflow for those who use Apple / Mac Photos to import regularly to Lightroom Classic

Hi Cletus, I will try this just to see how it works, thank you for sharing. In my experience, shooting RAW files using LR mobile or Halide gives me a very flat looking file that I need to put in a lot of work for in PP and even then the result mostly can’t compete with the SOOC heic/jpeg files...

Any suggestions for workflow for those who use Apple / Mac Photos to import regularly to Lightroom Classic

This may not be what you are looking for, but here it is anyway: If you only take plain stills with your iPhone it’s quite straightforward. I usually let the new photos sync to icloud on my MacBook, then export from the macos photos app to a temp folder and import into LR from there. There are...

Buying enough Mac for LrC without wasting money

Hi Cletus, interesting comment you made about RAM and intel vs M1 Macs. I am still running a Late 2013 retina MBP 15" w/ 16GB RAM and when using LrC I need to close most other apps or RAM will fill up quickly and the machine will get slow. After a reboot, and using only Lightroom, it's still...

    MacBook Pro with M1 Max

That is funny. Exactly 15 years ago, in 2007, I purchased an HD Cinema 30", along with my first ever Macbook Pro: a 17"model with hideous LCD screen. But the 30" display made up for that in many ways. It's that same 30" HD cinema display that I use today for all of my high screen size real...

    MacBook Pro with M1 Max

@HenryGordillo : now that you have used your new MacBook Pro for a couple of months, could you report back how you like it? I am considering the M1 Max w/ 64GB and 2TB storage.

Apple MacBook Pro M1 Pro - How much RAM? The answer may surprise you!

Hi David, thank you for sharing. I think there are some subtleties on this subject that I'd like to point out: As I am in the market for a new Macbook I am exploring the benefits of having more RAM so I went looking for information on this subject. On this very forum I found this topic which...

Cropping iPhone photos: how to deal with over sharpening?

I am sorry, I probably failed to explain clearly. I'll try again. Apple calls it "Deep Fusion" and it's available from the iPhone 11 and up. Basically it is a RAW editor (such as Lightroom) that processes every photo using the following steps (in short, you can read all about it if you do a...

Cropping iPhone photos: how to deal with over sharpening?

Hi Johan, I have LR mobile installed, as well as a couple of RAW capable 3rd party apps such as Halide. However, shooting RAW (DNG) bypasses the Fusion engine which at this point has become quite good. I am currently using an iPhone 11 that I can keep until mid 2022, then I will be debating 12...
