Jim - There's a reason why my daughter was against using Google Photos though I'm not sure why. Maybe because other photos are in iCloud and she didn't want to confuse things for her m-i-l with another web application. I'll look into it though.
Ken - good points. Regardless of what we do for her, I plan to suggest to my daughter that she keep a backup copy of everything for the sole purpose of being able to access the photos if it becomes necessary. Her mother-in-law has already had her computer "wiped" once accidentally so who knows...
Everyone, thanks for all these thoughts. Some I had already thought of but I really needed some other brains on this. Backup of the photos is already taken care of. I think Conrad's suggestion of using the OS search feature might be the best one for the older photos that are on the...
Is there such a thing? I have a friend who has thousands of pictures scattered all over to the point she can never find what she needs. My daughter set up a computer screensaver for her and it often shows a photo she wants to find again to print or whatever but she has no idea how to even...
Thanks, John. I had reset my preferences as I knew that might help from the past.
In fixing all of this I found it doesn't seem to be the "N" or "E" or similar characters. Still not sure of what the issue is. I have been careful to only use the Sync Metadata button rather than typing in...
That works as long as I remember sort of where the picture was taken. I have a lot of travel photos to work on as I have been very neglectful. :whistling: I had planned on filling in the ones without GPS by looking at those photos that had GPS, so loosing all the GPS information was a blow.
I...
I've been spending time recently doing some much needed maintenance on catalog, like organizing my keywords and culling and adding keywords to photos from the trips my husband and I took pre Covid. I know, I know....I've been very negligent. Anyway, I've run into two problems.
First, I had a...
Thanks for the suggestion,. Based on what I've research I'm not sure this will work but I'll give it a try and post back. According to Dell the addl graphics card in these laptops is a co-processor and not a totally discrete graphics option.
Thanks, Gnits. My ancient desktop recently died so I've been using this laptop exclusively for a month or so while I debate getting another desktop or just stick with the laptop and avoid the issues with keeping things in sync. With a desktop I've consider defecting to Apple, but I know...
I realize this is an old thread but I'm wondering if Gnits ever found a solution to forcing the Dell XPS 15 laptop to use the NVidia card with Lightroom? I stumbled across this thread while searching for something else and was interested since I have that same laptop (2018 version XPS 15 9570)...
Update - I've been working with some Microsoft/Windows gurus on another forum and I set up a new user account and that seems okay so far for Lightroom. However, I'm not sure how I'm going to get everything else set up the way it was without doing things one by one or losing a bunch of things...
Jim - Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't tried that until just now. It was very interesting. The typical delay I have in starting LrC didn't happen in Safe Mode. BUT the disclosure triangles still disappeared whenever I scroll over them wherever they exist. I'll have to do more...
The two accounts are both Administrator accounts (I already had it set up from early on but just never used it).
I did previously try creating a new catalog and added a few keywords in hierarchy and still had the problem, even with no photos imported yet.
