By the way, since @clee01l mentioned migrating to the cloud-based Lightroom first: in my small test, it only migrated the unmodified originals, and keywords were not preserved for raw or non-raw files. File names are the cryptic Photos file names. Titles and captions/descriptions migrate, as...
Thanks for writing this up, @BertL! I'm redoing my video tutorial because the method I used worked well for some, and terribly for others. I plan to use this approach.
It's unfortunate that, at least in my testing, for JPEG, PNG (and presumably other non-raw) originals, exporting the...
Hi LR gurus, a friend of mine has an issue that I don't know how to solve: she accidentally had two catalogs and wasn't seeing newer mobile downloads in her main one, so as best as I can tell from her story, she went into the Mobile Downloads.lrdata database for the second one, took images out...
@Jim Wilde, the paths for these three folders are
X:\Photo Library\PHOTOS GO HERE (this one, and only this one, shows in Finder)
X:\Photo Library\Photos go here
X:\Photo Library\Photos Go Here
(The drive letter has changed since I wrote previously, from F: to a permanent assignment of X)
Thank you, Jim. Here's a screenshot of the Folders panel with three versions of Photos Go Here. I didn't take one of Finder, but it just shows F:\Photo Library\PHOTOS GO HERE. (I'll get a screenshot.)
I'll get back to you on the paths.
3.5 minutes may seem long, but if you use collections and the other items I mentioned that aren't saved to XMP, I'd venture to say you'd burn through 3.5 minutes many times over trying to recover from a catalog corruption without a backup. Do you get up from your desk periodically for meals...
We were writing at the same time. Try storing your backups on your internal drive - see if that speeds up the process. As long as you back up your internal drive, that would be fine.
Hi Kirby, regarding catalog backups: all of your work is contained in the catalog. Making backups over time allows you to recover from a catalog corruption by allowing you to recover from one that was made before the corruption. I would go into Edit (PC) or Lightroom (Mac) > Catalog Settings...
If you select lots of photos to write metadata to, you'll see progress in the status bar. Otherwise I don't think there's a way to see it. If you close Lightroom before it is finished, it will warn you and give you a chance to cancel the quit.
Note that frequent catalog backups are a better...
It didn't work, Johan - same message. I have advised her to back up everything, photos and catalog, and then call Adobe Technical Support ... but if you have any other ideas, I'm all ears. Thank you for your help thus far.
I have been working with a client. She has "pgh", "Pgh" and "PGH" on her external drive. The last one is what shows in Finder.
- I created a "temp lr" folder at the root of her external drive,
- updated the location of "pgh" to "temp lr",
- I updated "temp lr" to "PGH".
I got this error: "An...
Hi Lee,
If the folders have question marks, then right-click and use Find Missing Folder to reconnect the folders. If the child folders are still in the old parents (and the images are still in the old child folders), then when you find the missing parent folders, LR will automatically find...
Hello Lightroom gurus!
I am updating my Producing Great Output video series, which covers Lightroom's output modules. Since my series will still support LR 5 (as well as 6, CC 2015 and Classic CC), I am trying to understand whether one can still create flash galleries with the LR 5 web module...
