Thank you, John. I’ll watch the Metadata panel more closely for a while and if the problem recurs I’ll post about it and perhaps have renewed interest in digging further into what might have happened.
Thank you, Victoria and John.
Per John’s suggestion to get a “sample photo (not yet imported into LR),” on December 4 I took a sample photograph and copied it from the Leica’s card to my desktop, thus bypassing Lightroom. I double-clicked this DNG, it opened in Camera Raw, and I was surprised...
The other day I noticed that beginning in April, the Metadata panel does not show the 28mm lens I used for my Leica M (typ240) -- the “Focal Length” field is altogether missing and the “Lens” field shows “not selected” (see screenshots). Prior to April, each field was recorded as expected. Using...
Johan, thank you, that was it. I was able to reproduce this outcome by locking it (intentionally, this time) before importing it. I think in my rush to keep shooting the other day, I was careless when I inadvertently landed in the "lock/unlock" menu in my camera and left that one image locked.
Thank you, Cletus. The naming template has been in use for years without a problem. And I create a new folder every time I do an import and have never had a naming conflict upon import.
I’ve been using the same import file-renaming preset for years without incident, but yesterday, during a routine import, there was a message that one file out of the thirty or so on my card could not be renamed (see screenshot); it was imported without problem.
Even once imported, when I tried...
Thank you Y.K.
I've decided that for the time being, I will forgo any backing up during the day and keep to my regular habit of conscientious end-of-the-day (i.e., once I'm finishing working) backing up with Carbon Copy Cloner and Time Machine (with the automatic backup feature unchecked)...
Thanks for the continuing help.
My deliberations about what I want to do continue. As of this writing, I’m leaning toward using time machine with only my MacBook, with an attached SSD; continuing to rely on our good Carbon Copy Cloner habits of daily backups (each of us backs up daily to two...
Thank you Cletus, Conrad, and Louie for your replies and their pointing me to other consideration related to my situation.
For clarification, my wife and I have two MacBook Pros and one iMac, and we’d like to avoid using one external drive for Time Machine backups for each device -- that...
Thank you, John. I've attached a PDF of what I read about Time Machine and Lightroom protecting itself (taken with my iPhone from the book itself).
I'll need a little more time to think through the rest of your reply and get back to you with follow-up if appropriate. Thanks again.
Thank you, Rusty. I do have "Automatically write changes into XMP" checked.
Have you any thoughts on whether a PSD would be in any jeopardy if it is open in Photoshop when a Time Machine back up starts or is opened when one is in progress?
My actual question is in the last paragraph. The other paragraphs set what I hope will be useful context.
The disk in our Time Capsule has died. I’m using it as only a router for now (ethernet connection to Verizon Fios), and have ordered a Synology RT2600ac router because it can 1) serve as a...
Thank you, Victoria. I started to do it with my "different route" (as you describe it; see #3 above) and it's working fine. I don't use cloud sync at all.
In my workflow, whenever I do "Export as catalog" (which is not infrequently), I export the files to a new location. I've been doing it this...
