    Importing previously edited photos

I disagree. I came to the forum because I was confused and I was asked, "what is there to be confused about?" When someone explains an idea, and the listener/reader still doesn't understand, then the answer is not to tell them they are wrong for not understanding. I'm a smart person. I've been...

    Importing previously edited photos

this is what I'm trying to figure out. I didn't ever have the "write to XMP files" checked because I thought the editing data was being written to the DNG. Further, I thought, "I don't want the XMP files. I don't need them since I'm using DNG" And clearly I didn't understand. But I'm glad I'm...

    Importing previously edited photos

unfortunately when I tried to restore my backup, that ended up getting corrupted too. It's just all a hot mess. It's not the end of the world. I backup regularly so I only lost a day's work. Just frustrating. Obviously I still have all the original images, I'll just have to go back. I keep my...

    Importing previously edited photos

I find your tone a bit condescending. I am confused because I was under the impression that Lightroom would write the edits to my DNG file without me having to export the files as DNGs. I thought that having a DNG file would have the edits automatically saved to the DNG - much in the same way...

@Johan Elzenga I'm really confused because when I do a quick google search I found the following:

    Importing previously edited photos

OK so I think I understand. So would I need to have a separate XMP sidecar file to contain the edits?

    Importing previously edited photos

When I import my images to LR, I convert them to DNG. I thought the metadata settings were saved to that DNG file. Recently I had a corrupted LR catalog, so I just started a new catalog and re-imported all my DNGs. However there were no editing details attached to any of these images and I had...

canon camera star ratings carry over to LR

I rate in camera - not always, but when I do - I do it because after a session with a client, I use a mini-HDMI cord to attach to my large tv screen. I have the client view SOOC images on the spot so they can choose their favorites. I then edit only their favorites. I indicate which ones are...

canon camera star ratings carry over to LR

Hello! This isn't a question but more just sharing info. I'm happy to say that I found MOST of my answer from a forum thread posted here from 2014. Just wanted to share in case anyone is interested! On Canon cameras, there is a RATE button on the back. (other cameras might also have the same...

New Photos vs All Photos when importing

Thanks so much for weighing in. This is frustrating! But I really appreciate your insight. I will give the preferences reset thing a go!

New Photos vs All Photos when importing

I believe I am, yes. The imported images were imported to the computer I'm currently on, so I wouldn't have used a different method. I'm not sure why it would matter though? If it does.... that seems like it would be a bug that LR would address? I mean, whether I use a card reader, or whether I...

New Photos vs All Photos when importing

Yes, as I stated in my original post, "Don't import suspected duplicates" is indeed checked. I am importing by inserting my SD card into the SD card slot on my computer. In the past I have also imported through a USB 3.0 card reader.

New Photos vs All Photos when importing

Hi all When I import, I usually don't immediately clear my SD card, as I keep the images on there until the job is delivered, just as another backup. But anyway... Lately when I put my card in and my import screen opens, I am seeing lots of previously imported images. It's a pain to sort through...
