Found the resolution
OK, I figured things out -- but it still doesn't make full sense to me...
My problem started with what the Lightroom "Import from Aperture" tool did to my old library structure. In Aperture, I cataloged my photos within (Aperture parlance) one Project per shooting day...
Another Lightroom CC newbie question...
So I'm trying to use Lightroom's built-in HDR functionality. I pick a group of files, right-click to get Photo Merge -> HDR, and things seem to start off well. The HDR dialog comes up, I pick my options and click on "Merge." Lightroom does its thing...
Thanks, Johan -- this is what did it to me. That and the fact that I'd forgotten to empty the Aperture "trash," and I had a bunch of managed files lurking there.
So like a lot of people, I'm finally moving from Aperture to Lightroom. I'd like to leave my masters in place (I've already changed my Aperture library from Managed to Referenced), so pick that option when importing my library:

Thanks! I'm using Aperture 3.6, and am still in the "tinkering around" stage with Lightroom CC, so set up a new (test) catalog for my first wobbly steps with the new software.
FWIW, my problem was even simpler than I'd thought. LR was pointed at some empty...

Another LR newbie here. I'm attempting to import files from Aperture using the "File > Plug-in Extras > Import from Aperture Library" tool -- but when I do this in a new catalog, everything that "Plug-in Extras" points at is grayed out:
