Yes, Windows was messing around with my drive letters. I have several external drives attached and one seemingly failed to start, so all letters were reassigned. Now that is fixed, LR was able to find the missing pics quite quickly. Thanks to all who contributed!
My catalogue shows 24,000 missing photos. However, when I locate(some of) these, the counter does not decrease. I've logged out, bacjed up and restarte, but counter remains unchanged. What is going on?
Thank you. I had found that reference but still had the problem. HOWEVER, on restarting LR today I find that the images are no longer greyed out and I can drag them into a static collection. Perfect! Thanks for your help.
I've just started using LR Mobile, for both Android and IOS, although using LR for many years. I want to get my phone camera shots into the pc - I do not intend editing in LR Mobile.
Mobile data syncs ok with cloud and stores images in specified folder on my hard drive. In LR Classic on...
I compared overall size of folders of original raw files with those of dng's, to identify the folders with the (biggest) problems. Where the dng's were >= size of raw, I re-inputted to a new dng. Some re-editing needed but fortunately not too much.
Whilst researching on the effect of the different ways on importing raw files into LR Classic, I noticed that some of my DNG folders were much larger than those holding the original raw files. Using a different catalogue, I re-imported the raws, again as dng. I found that the new dng folder was...
I've re-compiled all the smart previews - reduced the size of the folder to 31Gb from 213Gb, so that's solved that difficulty. Thanks so much for all your good advice. The exercise has raised another issue, but I'll start a new thread on that. Thanks for your help.
I've been doing a lot of reading on the pros and cons of DNG files versus keeping the original RAW. One matter I find confusing is the storage of edit data. I was always under the impression that this was stored in the LR catalogue, but now I read that its also in the DNG file? Is there a...
I don't have any HDR images, but thanks for the suggestion. My difficulty was in identifying specific previews in the folder - ie if I want to delete the previews of one part of my collection, how do I find the relevant previews?
Thanks, Victoria, I'll do that. Just one more question, please - is it possible to delete onlu=y part of the Smart Preview folder - ie to do it a bit at a time? Then I can prioritise which ones I'm fixing.
Yes, I will need to edit them on the laptop.
I'm surprised that the overall size / space occupied will not reduce - looking at the example of sizes given in your FAQ book it seems that my overall size is too large?
I have 40,000 image files and currently using LR Classic the catalogue uses 400 Mb, the Preview cache 23 Gb, and the Smart Previews 213 Gb, using Win 10. The image files are stored on external drives (500Gb). I want to transfer my catalogue to a fast USB so I can also use LR on my laptop for...
