I could not find anything related to this topic here.

Which makes me wonder about my abilities to search here as for sure this subject has already been discussed LOL!

Do you guys and girls apply a preset when importing from your D90?

I tends to like a Clarity (not sure of the English name) / Vibrance / Saturation of +5 / +5 / +10.

Thoughts?

I have a D90 but all I apply on import are the check box to apply lens corrections (distortion and CA) and the change to the Camera Neutral Camera Calibration. After that every shot is different. Even the Camera Neutral is not yet settled. I think Adobe Standard is too saturated as a starting point but I'm not sure whether the "Camera" alternatives contain the full ProPhoto color space. Martin Evening's book refers to them as Jpg-like calibrations, implying perhaps that they are really sRGB but I'm not sure.

Just a clarification and without putting words into Martin's mouth, I would say his comment regarding JPEG-like calibrations means that they are designed to mimic the color response of your in-camera produced JPEG files. I don't think it should be construed that they are sRGB or converting thusly. A camera-produced JPEG is sRGB (unless you specifiy Adobe RGB) the file in Lightroom-regardless of your Camera Calibration is in ProPhoto.

Thank you Rikk, I was concerned that perhaps the Adobe versions of camera calibrations were not measured over the full ProPhoto color space the same way that the Adobe Standard is. I used to use Nikon's camera neutral in Capture NX2, and in-camera, with everything else zero'd out as starting point. Lr3's Camera Neutral with the default medium tone curve is very similar. As long it contains the full ProPhoto colors space I'll stick with using it.

What Martin says (Page 340 of his Lightroom 3 book) is

"... if you want your photos to match the 'look' of one of the camera JPEG settings ..."

So Rikk, with whom I entirely agree, is representing Martin's view quite correctly.
