The adjustment increment of several of the sliders is supposed to be reduced by holding the Alt key down while the + or - key. This doesn't work on my system. I've tried tested both Alt keys with both + and - keys on my keyboard. No luck. All I get is the Windows error tone. Using the Shift key to increase the adjustment increment works as it should. Any ideas out there? TIA, njb

Well, using the numbers pad on my keyboard with Num Lock on I find that just using + or - will increase/decrease the slider value (which is what you would expect as that's exactly the message issued by Lightroom when you click on a slider). Using Shift with + or - will increase/decrease by a greater extent.

Slightly more confusing when using the ordinary QWERTY keys.....the =/+ key when pressed without the Shift key (i.e. you are 'typing' =) increases by the smaller amount, using Shift with this key (i.e you are 'typing' +) increases by a larger extent. Using the _/- key decreases the slider in the same way (without Shift is the smaller decrement, with Shift is the larger decrement).

I agree that using the Alt key just give the Windows error tone.

Victoria, possibly page 484 of the FAQ needs to be revisited?

In the LR3 manual (page 175) I cannot see the Alt with +/- for smaller steps:

I got the idea of the use of the Alt key along with the + or - keys to get smaller incremental changes from the Tips sidebar on page 276 of in Martin Evening's Lightroom 3 book. Maybe it was implemented in a beta version he was using as he wrote the book or maybe he was thinking of the use of the Alt key for the same increment-minimizing purpose when used with the up and down arrows in the Target Adjustment tool. whatever. It would be nice, though, if there were a keyboard way to move Basic panel sliders in increments of 1. Thanks for the answers. njb

You can....single-click in the value box at the right-hand side of the slider and then the up/down arrows will give you the +/-1 movement (exposure stays at +/-0.1). You can also directly enter a specific value.

Given Mark's response, and the fact that IIRC Martin Evening is also a Mac user, I'm wondering if this is a case of platform-dependent different behaviour.

Mmmm, I've seen a similar report on the U2U, saying that it's not working correctly on Windows. I'll check it out further and get a bug report in.

Perhaps, and there's no guarantees that it'll get fixed, but they do try to avoid OS-specific things where possible.
