I can't get the date infoto appear in the metadata panel. I choose Default then press the Customize button. When I check Date and Capture Date the info line appears in the scroll down but there is no information in the rectangular box. Mac OS 11.6, Lightroom 12.0.1, Canon 5d IV. See screen capture:

The photo file could be missing the capture date in its metadata. Try importing a brand new photo from the camera and looking in the Metadata panel -- is the Capture Date field blank?

By the way, the Date, Time, and Date Time fields probably aren't useful to you. They show the industry standard metadata field containing when the photo was last modified by an app conforming with the standard. LR displays that field but doesn't update it. Why it's called "date" is just one of the mysterious of industry standards.

John, I know you have studied these dates quite a bit and your knowledge is quite valuable, For those reading this forum, could you post a sentances on what each of the LrC date fields really is?

Thanks -- Dan

Over the years, I've made several such posts in the Adobe forums, but they've gotten lost in the forum migrations. So here's an updated, comprehensive description:

(I can't believe my head is filled with all this annoyingly picayune detail.)

Thanks John. Many will greatly appreciate this content for years to come.
