Endless "Sync pending" and "Syncing items"

My LR for MacOS has been stuck in "Sync pending" (the tooltip that pops up if I hover over the cloud icon with blue circle in the upper right; it disappears when I try to screenshot it) for days. Nothing seems to be missing as far as synced photos, there are no Sync errors in either LR, LrC or LR Web, and the "Syncing items" at the bottom of the sync dialog is just that, not "Synching 1 item" (I've been there) or "Syncing 425 items".

It does not seem to be causing any issues, it is just annoying when software does unexplainable things.

Any ideas about the cause or resolution?
 
If you use the "Sync Status" option on the Filter Bar (select All Photos as the source first) and click on the "Syncing" option, does anything show up (or do you get a "Black Hole")?

I've had this situation myself, i.e. a permanent "Syncing Items" state with nothing apparently still syncing. There were 3 different scenarios which could have caused it:

1. A deleted item still syncing. Check the Deleted album to see if any of the images in that album still have the blue spinning sync icon, if they do you can permanently delete them, and that should clear the problem.
2. It often happens (for me) after importing and uploading more than a certain number of images (haven't found the trigger point), i.e. after the last new image has finished uploading, the sync status switches from "Syncing xx Items" to "Syncing Items" and stays like that until restarting the app (but the restart always clears that particular issue).
3. A recent problem I came across was that I found a syncing error on 2 images that were in a "Shared with You" album (shared by me from a test account). There was no particular issue that I could see to cause the error, but the interesting thing is discovering that the Sync Status search apparently doesn't search "Shared with You" albums, hence why I got the "Black Hole". Deleting and re-sharing the images cleared the problem. So if you have albums shared with you from another user, check the "Shared with You" tab in the Shared Albums list, as any stuck syncing problems should show the syncing icon on the album name.

If none of those issues apply to you, my advice would be to ignore the irritating problem until the next update, I know that Adobe are working on solving these syncing "issues" so hopefully there'll be a fix coming.
