I have a 2TB iPad and so I do have room for my 700GB(81K) of originals. I have an ALL PHOTOS album which is set to "Store Locally". However "Local Storage" shows I only have 126.94GB of "Locally Stored Copies". I assume these are Smart Previews because I have "Only download Smart Previews" checked In "Cloud Storage and Sync".

If I uncheck "Only download Smart Previews" it would download all 700GB.

Have I got this correct?

Thanks

PS Not sure I want to do this yet, but want to make sure I understand!

Yes, ‘store locally’ means that either a smart preview or the original is stored on the iPad, so you can edit images even when you are offline. Smart previews are just fine for this.

Not sure about this. Smartpreviews are capped at 2048 in the long dimension and also have reduced bit depth in a compressed format (I think lossy but have not been able to confirm). Depending on what you are doing, and also which iPad and resolution the Smartpreview might be insufficient.

I have the largest 12/9" M1 iPadPro. the Smart Previews are fine for working develop in that machine. If you export from the iPad, Lightroom downloads the original full-size image for export and exports a full size image.

Smart previews are 2560 pixels wide if I remember correctly. There may be situations where a smart preview may not have enough detail, but in most cases you will be fine. The OP can decide whether he wants to download originals after all.
