Hi, I've noticed a very slight colour cast on black and white prints over the lasy few days - somewhat like the effect you would get using the selenium tone feature - but a little greener rather than blue =it's very slight, but held next to other b&w prints the difference is obvious - the grey's just aren't grey.

I probably need to calibrate my screen, but as I'm just using a b&w preset, I didn't think this mattered too much and colour prints are coming out fine. I've checked the paper type buttons on the print settings and print module of Lr and everything is as it usually is. I have a Canon pixma pro 100s and the batch of inks I'm currently using aren't Canon - although, again, colour prints are fine.

Any help appreciated.

Are you checking the Black and White Photo print option in the Quality and Media section of the print dialog? I find with my Pro-100 that I get a color cast in a print that is a B&W conversion if I don't select that option. That forces it to use the 3 black related cartridges. (black, dark gray, light gray) and not the color cartridges.
Is LRC or the printer managing colour? In other words, are you using an ICC profile for the printer and paper?

Hi, thanks for replying. It's the printer - Canon pro100s photos paper plus semi gloss. It's what i always use, I tend not to fiddle with those settings and always use the same paper.

could it be the inks? Or would that mean that the colur prints would look wrong also?

As a test, you may want to try allowing LRC to manage the colour by using one of the ICC profiles that likely may have already been installed. If not see, https://www.canon.com.cy/printers/inkjet/pixma/software/icc-profiles/. Just make sure that colour management is turned off in the printer when you use an ICC profile. If you are using an ICC profile, you can also Soft Proof the print. See https://helpx.adobe.com/ca/lightroom-classic/help/develop-module-options.html

I use, and best practice, seems to be to let LRC perform colour management.

Screen calibration always matters and I would suggest you look at that before attempting an ICC profile print

Hi there. Just to revise what I said earlier. Lr is managing the colour, I've calibrated the screen with a Spyder and it's made no difference unfortunately.

An example above - the first one is direct from Lr the one underneath is an iphone photo of the print, to better illustrate what I mean. The difference in reality isn't quite as marked as it appears there, but not too far off.

I just tried printing the image through the Canon print studio pro plugin and the problem has disappeared - just trying to rule out the inks being an issue.

What’s changed recently? Driver update? Try with the printer managing colour to see if that makes a difference. Make notes with each combination you try to narrow down the cause.

Hi, thanks for your reply - that's interesting, I've never done that before, or even considered it - I kind of assumed that the printer would automatically not use the coloured inks. Will try it.

Thanks for helping on this thread, will try with the printer managing it.

That worked - thank you. (just got to remember to unflag the b&w box when I do a colour print now!)

Glad I could help. Remember that a sepia toned or one of the other "color" toned black and whites you will need to leave that unchecked, but pure B&W keep it checked. And it may auto uncheck. I think I've been bit by that doing a series of prints.

That's far too sensible. I say that as a retired engineer who stopped doing that sort of thing the day I retired

Yes I guessed sepia or selenium toned prints would need it checked - thanks for the warning that it may uncheck itself also.
