Some time ago I changed photo names from name.jpg to yyyymmdd-name.jpg to avoid same name issues. Now I had an external HD fail and have many files with the yyyymmddd.... name but catalog filenames are name.jpg only. I can easily find the missing photos on the backup drive by folder names as capture date, but the filenames don't match (yyyymmddd.name.jpg does not equal name.jpg). I can identify the missing photo but only one at a time. How can I rename the yyyy etc files to be name (only).jpg as they were originally?

I use "Bulk Rename Utility" from TGRMN Software (Windows only). It is free for personal use. Here's the URL https://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/

There are literally hundreds of others to choose from as well. Pretty powerful but entry screen is a bit complex in order to support that power. You probably only need the "Replace (3)" panel or the Remove (5) panel for what you need to do.

Have to agree that it looks a bit intimidating, but is really quite helpful and powerful.

Thanks to Califdan and to Replytoken for your help. I've downloaded BRU and will work with that to address my problem.

Thanks again.
