Hi,

I have the basic 20Gb of storage and use LR Classic. I only use LR Mobile as a way to take a photo on my phone, import into an album in Mobile and then when I get back to my laptop with Classic on, I move the photos into a folder on my local system and add it to a Collection on there. I then sync the new collection with LR so the photos sync up as a Smart Preview.

I have just moved ALL the photos that LR Mobile imported into my classic library so technically I should have all 20Gb free on the Cloud (as only Smart Previews are being synced from Classic). Yet, when I check how much cloud space I have, it shows I am using 4.3Gb/20Gb?

Why is this? The sync status in Classic, Mobile and Web all say Up to Date.

One guess I have is deleted files. Could it be those? I have some but I can't imagine it is 4.3Gb worth.

Thanks,
Neil

Jim, Ok, i've installed Lightroom CC on my machine. What should I be looking for in there to identify non Smart Preview images?

Would the photos I'm looking for appear under a filter of "Synced and Backed Up"?

So it does look like the above appears to be working. I'm taking it slow to ensure I do it correctly. My method so far:

1. Filter all photos in Lightroom CC by "Synced and Backed Up" - This shows all photos that have an original stored in the Adobe Cloud. (I think that's right!)

2. Find a set of photos in there and go and find that Collection in Lightroom Classic and unsync it

3. Find the photos in the "All Synced Photos" special collection and use the "Remove from All Synced Photographs" option in the right...

It sounds as though you are not deleting the image from the cloud. In Classic, if you move the photo to another folder, it doesn't delete the original image from the cloud. You need to actually delete it from the cloud by selecting it in the "All Synced Photos" special collection and removing it from there. Then, later, when you sync the photo again (by syncing a new collection with the photo included in it), only the Smart Preview will sync up to the cloud.

All original files will be synced from the Cloud - Based apps, Lr Desktop, Lr mobile for smartphones and tablets. These will utilize your Cloud Storage.
If you have Lightroom Classic synced copies of the original files will be synced down to your computer and be stored in a default folder. You can change the default location.
You can move those images into your Pictures structure on your computer and include in a Collection in LrC and sync to the cloud storage that should replace the originals in the cloud with smart previews.

No Denis, it doesn't work that way. As @prbimages explained, moving the downloaded images from one folder to another in LrC does not delete them from the cloud, as they remain synced. They need to be "unsynced" in LrC (by removing them from the All Synced Photographs" special collection), which causes them to be deleted from the cloud. Once that has been done, they can be re-synced from LrC, either by adding them to a synced collection or by adding them back into the All Synced Photographs collection, which will then upload the smart previews.

The above sounds pretty much like what I'm experiencing. I have a lot of Collections ticked to sync and therefore a lot of photos in the "All Synced Photos" special collection. Is there a way to find any photos in the special collection that are also not in any other regular synced collection?

I then filter to just those and delete them from the special collection.

Not easily, and how hard it is depends on how many synced collections you have.

Before you start, you'll find it easier if you empty your Quick Collection first (and make sure it's still set as the Target Collection).

Then you need to select all of your synced collections (Cmd-Click on each of them until they're all selected), so the grid is then populated with all the synced images that are in at least one synced collection.

Then Cmd+A to select all the images in the grid, then click on the All Synced Photographs special collection, which displays the contents in the grid with only the previously selected images still selected.

Then Edit>Invert Selection....that inverts the selection in the grid so that now only the images which are NOT in a synced collection will be selected. Press the "B" key on the keyboard which adds all those "not in a synced collections" images to the Quick Collection (making it easier to find them again if you need to).

If you are sure you want to remove those images from the cloud, right-click on any of the still-selected images in the grid (while still having the ASP collection selected) and select "Remove from All Synced Photographs"....which will then delete them from the cloud.

If you subsequently decide that you might want to re-sync some of those removed images back to the cloud, you still have them all available in the Quick Collection, so you can review them there and add to an existing synced collection as needed, which will then sync a smart preview of the image back to the cloud.

Jim,

Many thanks for that. Makes perfect sense. Once you've managed to select all the synced collections it works perfectly. I have A LOT! The issue is, that the difference was only 11 images. I have removed those 11, but those 11 100% do not make up the space being used on the cloud, therefore the culprit must lie somewhere else.

Any ideas?

Do you have the Lightroom Desktop app installed, as that's the best place for determining if you still have originals in the cloud?

The other thing to do would be to check the Creative Cloud Files folder to see if there are any files in there which are using cloud space.

I don't have Lightroom desktop installed. I checked the CC folder in Finder and it's empty apart from a .webloc file.

@Jim Wilde Does that sound right? My cloud storage has reduced from 4.3Gb to 4.0Gb used now so it does look like it but just want to make sure.

Huzzah! All back to normal!

Apologies for the multiple consecutive posts. Appreciate all your help to allow me to resolve this. I shall be more careful when next transferring images from LR Mobile to Lightroom Classic.

I think I need to complete the move to Classic as one task, followed by the syncing of Collections to sync the ones I want.

Yes, if you mean under the "Sync Status" on the Filter bar (click on the filter icon at the right of the centre Search bar). Sync Status tells you a few things, one of which would be "Synced from Classic".....so if the total there is LESS than the total of All Photos, then that indicates you have some originals in the cloud. Another entry in the Sync Status list would be "Synced and Backed Up", which is basically the total of originals files which Lightroom has "backed up" in the cloud. So that total plus the "Synced from Classic" total should equal the All Photos total. Obviously you can click on either of those entries to see the specific images in the grid.

Yes, that sounds correct.
