My 80K Lightroom Cloudy library has been set up for three years and People/Faces generally works pretty well. My most photographed family members have several thousand pics recognised in the People album and hundreds of other people appear down to single figures.

I recently wanted to find more pictures of my uncle. I can go to several clear pics of him in the albums but he does not appear anywhere in People album.

People I met for the first time this last Sunday have appeared in People album, so it is working.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Not sure what you're saying here: are you saying that your uncle isn't a recognised person in the People list, or are you saying that he is but there are some pictures of him which the face recognition engine is not picking up?

What info do you get when you open one of the images into the Display mode then open the Keywords panel. All/any recognised faces will be listed above the keywords section, even if they're not yet named. Hover over each entry an a face-region rectangle will appear over the corresponding face. Is there such an entry for your uncle's face?

Brilliant! Thanks.

I meant that my uncle wasn't being recognised at all in the People album. I could have missed him which would be easy to do, scanning hundreds of tiny faces of unnamed people, but I have repeated the search a few times over the last month.

But opening one of the photos with him in , then the Keywords panel showed his face as unnamed. Added name and now he is in the People album and I can see all the pics of him which LR has found.

I didn't know about using the Keyword panel this way (I dont actually use keywords at all) so very useful.

Yes, the issue is that even though the face recognition engine does detect a face, it doesn't show it as an "unnamed" face in the People view unless there are at least 5 instances of the same face in the library. However, if you then subsequently name one of those faces (via the keywords panel), then the named face will appear in the People view no matter how few instances there are.

Thanks. Yes I see that there no unnamed people with less than 5 instances, but as soon as I named my uncle in the keyword panel, there were 11 photos of him.

Does that fit with what you are saying or did I just not spot him among the unnamed faces.

Not really, if there are now 11 images in his cluster then I'm not sure what's going on. Did you see any dialog once you'd named the first region to the effect that "this might be the same person" (showing a different face which may or may not be the same person)? If so, it's possible there were three or more unnamed clusters which turned out to be the same person but the face recognition engine wasn't sure, so decided not to merge them all into one unnamed cluster.

No I didn't see any "is this the same person" dialogs.
I think the most likely explanation is that the 11 photos were always there as an unnamed person, and I didn't recognise him from the face in the circle. In the keyword panel the face for him was not one of the most recognisable ones.
Thanks for resolving.
