What is the correct way to enter either a line break, or a paragraph break in the caption field within Lightroom?

I enter the data, and it looks correct in Lightroom, as below:

------------------------

The women of Rajasthan perform Ghoomar on any joyous occasion, to celebrate life stages and yearly festivals. Traditionlly, when a new bride enters her husband's family home, she dances with the women of the family to celebrate her new status as a wife.

Music: Traditional Rajasthani song.

Choreography: Jogendra Sundar Desai

------------------------

But the result in the image file's metadata is to run the breaks together, and insert ? in their place. Such as the following, with a '?' inserted for each break:

------------------------

Even a cut & paste from Lightroom to this forum, produces the following, without the '?':

HTML does not recognize CRs and LFs collapsing all non printable characters into a single space The </br> HTML Tag is used in webpages to create a new paragraph.

That's what I thought at first, but this question is more related to why the CR's and LF's are collapsing in the file's metadata, as seen in Adobe Bridge? Interestingly, I also use an IPTC-PLUS plug-in in Bridge, which displays the same data, in the same file correctly.

The bottom line is, how do I solve this problem? My preference, for simplicity of workflow, is to begin this data entry in Lightroom.

The Cut & Paste to this web page follows the HTML Rules.
What application are you using to view the text that produces the (?'s)? Usually ?'s are a text substitution in an text application for non printable characters. It doe not meant the text field is missing <cr><lf> but just that the viewer is not set up to display the character that it finds.

This has nothing to do with HTML. However, the ?'s are appearing when I upload to my Photoshelter archive.

My question was....... how to format text to be entered into the Caption field in Lightroom.

Since it does not accept a standard 'Carriage Return' (i.e. you can't simply hit 'Return' as you would in a normal text editor), you must use 'ctrl-return' instead. What is not apparent is, that the initial entry of this does not seem to really do anything except make it look correct in Lightroom.

To do a simple line feed, you must hit ctrl-return twice, and for a new paragraph, you need to hit it three times, thus creating a blank line.

This method is necessary to properly format the text in the file's metadata. With it correct, the data uploads correctly, and results in the correct appearance: http://archive.johngwalter.com/gallery-image/Ghoomar/G0000gQzSiozbRus/I0000cbVSFxtX6Js/C0000YYRC33igyNk

Here I am, quoting myself, as it seems what I stated above is not correct? Or at least, not working the same as yesterday?

I appears there is a difference between an 'initial entry' or an 'edit' of data into the 'Caption' field in Lightroom. Perhaps I was just mistaken, but today it seems that 'opt-return' is needed to place line feeds or paragraph breaks into the text? And, again, it is not clear, or consistent, as to how many?

The above link is an example of how it should appear on the web, but I have not found any reference as to how to enter that data into Lightroom, to achieve that result?
