Export Can I delete my Images Edited in Lightroom Classic?

I transferred my entire library of images on my laptop to Lightroom (cloud-based) as I subscribe to Adobe's 1 TB Photography plan, and I am getting a new laptop, so I didn't know of a better place to put them. Should I delete these now, or transfer them to an external hard disk drive? I know the editing tools in the cloud based program aren't as sophisticated, but had heard that I can store new images in the cloud with Lightroom, edit them with Classic, and send them back by transferring them via the cloud-based Lightroom. Does this seem correct? Thanks.

DO NOT DELETE (yet). We need more information before providing advice

1) how did you transfer the images to the Adobe Cloud? Specifically did you "migrate" your catalog (that exact word on a menu)? If not please explain the steps you took.

2) Do you intend to stop using LR Classic from this point forward and only use the Cloud based apps or after you get your new computer do you intend to continue using LR/Classic

I migrated my catalog, and will still probably use Lightroom Classic, but will experiment with the cloudy service to see if I can achieve the same results, like increasing saturation of only one color or saving images in Raw format.

If you want to continue to use Lightroom Classic, then you cannot delete the local images. Please note that Adobe advises against using Lightroom Classic after you have migrated the catalog to the cloud. Migrating is meant as a permanent move to Lightroom desktop, not as a way to use both together. It is possible do do that, but you have to know exactly what you are doing in order not to make mistakes you may regret later.

LrClassic can sync selected collections to the Adobe cloud. This is probably the best approach for using Lr and LrC together. Sync'd collections from Classic are proxy Smart DNGs and do not count against your plan limits (20GB or 1TB)
Smart DNGs can be used like full size files in Lightroom (cloudy) but are no substitutes for or backup of full size original images.

Cletus or Johan, I'm a bit rusty on this so perhaps you know off the top of your head. Now that the OP has actually done a "Migrate" which placed full size originals in the cloud, how can (s)he undo it? I assume the LRc catalog still has all the images and is still pointing to the images on the local disk so I imagine they need to "un-migrate" somehow to purge the LR/Cloudy of all those full size images and reset it for LR/Classic to be the master rather than LR/Cloudy.

On that important assumption, just delete everything that is in the cloud. So in Cloudy, delete every photo.

You also have the Classic option to delete all synced data.

As John says... Delete all of the images in "cloudy" and start over IF all of the images are still in the original LrC catalog and the original images are still on the local drive. By "starting over", I mean to sync to the Adobe Cloud from LrC selected collections (which could be a huge Collection containing all Photographs in the catalog. ). This will not put full size originals in the cloud but new full size images imported into Lightroom "cloudy". from a mobile Lightroom will be synced back to the Classic catalog file and the local drive.

Is there an easy way to delete duplicate images in "cloudy" if I stop using LR Classic? I wonder if I should delete my LR Classic catalog when I get rid of my laptop? I do have to clean all my data off unless I decide to keep the old laptop and just not use it.

I don't know if there are any duplicate detection tools in LR/Cloudy so won't comment on that part of your last post. However, I will comment on the other part. However if you've followed the advice in this thread, and you no longer want some of the images in the Cloud since they are known to LR/Classic, just remove them from all sync'ed collections (including the "All synced Photos" collection) and they'll be removed from the cloud.

In your first email you said you were replacing the old laptop with a new one. Assuming it's a windows/10 or MacOS machine it should be able to run LR/Classic just fine. So, I'm not sure why your are interested in burning your bridges so to speak by ditching your LR Classic Catalog? Especially before you've had a chance to really see if LR/Cloudy is capable of what you need. If you've done anything in LR/Classic beyond image editing basics I suggest that you'll be disappointed with what you can (or in this case can't) do in LR./Cloudy.

A second point is that up till now, we've been advising you on how to use LR/Cloudy along with LR/Classic and not have to pay for more cloud storage. But now you're talking about getting rid of LR/Classic altogether which makes all the suggestions we've provided so far not applicable to your newly divulged plan. For starters, what we've suggested relies on you having your original images on your laptop and known to LR/Classic. If you ditch LR/Classic you may or may not have your original "out of camera" image files (depending on if you copy them to the new laptop or not) and they may or may not have XMP sidecar files to provide the look for whatever you've done with those images in LR. What you'd have in LR/Cloudy are reduced size DNG "Smart Previews" which - while perfectly fine for editing purposes - are not your full resolution images.

I strongly suggest that you get your new laptop, Copy the entire folder containing your current LR/Classic catalog to the new computer. Then copy all your image folders to an external hard drive or copy them to the new computer's internal drive as well. If you ever get to the point where you are sure the LR/Cloudy has all the features you need and is giving you the results you desire, you and then decide to depricate LR/Classic. You would do that by "migrating" the LR/Classic catalog to the Cloud (where you were when you first started this thread) and be ready to pay lots more $$$$ for additional cloud storage when you run out.

Apart from looking at pics and deleting them? No, Cloudy is crap at anything as "advanced" as that.

While in LR /Cloudy, looking at the migrated images, it appears that the sequence of edited images including the original RAW file, the edited RAW file, and JPG transfers to places like a Nixplay picture frame and Facebook are all there, so it looks like I can delete them one by one until I have the edited RAW file left as the only one remaining. It sounds, though, like this is a smaller DNG "Smart Preview, " though?

A smart preview has a slightly different circle icon in the lower right corner of the thumbnail to help you identify it.
