Transfer files with LR Classic edits

I shoot for a client weekly and use my second computer that I keep at that location, I save my images to an external drive while I shoot.
When I bring the drive back to my main computer the edits are not saved when I copy the images over to my main storage drive.
Not even the photoshop edits or jpegs that I save are showing up correctly. I would think at least my Jpegs would be correct
since I save those from my photoshop file. When I plug the drive back into the computer I shoot with all of my edits are still there.
Is there a simple way for me to transfer my files and keep all of my edits? I am using the same version of LR Classic and Photoshop
on both computers.

Edits are saved in the catalog, not in the images. If you need the images outside Lightroom, then you will have to export them. If your client uses Lightroom too, then you have to export them as a new catalog and tell the client to import that catalog.

Hi,

When you have to work on the same images on two different computers where PS and/or LR are installed, you can easily transfer your edits. When you are ready with your edits on your RAW files on one computer, just make sure that you have generated the corresponding XMP files (either automatically or manually by using Ctrl-S). Then take your files and the corresponding XMP files and go to the other system. When cataloging your files in LR or when loading them in PS via ACR, the edits contained in the XMP files will be taken into account and you'll get your images in the state they were when leaving the first computer. There's no need to export anything.

There will be no problem with your JPEG files if you have checked the " Include develop settings in metadata inside JPEG..." option in the Catalog Settings.

That's probably because you didn't copy the XMP files from the drive to your main main computer (or because they just didn't exist).

Note that by using the XMP method your editing history will not be kept. This is why the Catalog Import/Export is prefered most of the time when the question is to continue work on another machine.

In that case, the "Copy new photos to a new location and import " option will have to be selected when importing the catalog exported on the initial system.

Losing the edit history is certainly a drawback of the XMP method. However, it is more convenient when loading the images in PS directly.
