I have a small problem, I have my collections organized in a 4-level deep hierarchy. And I have apparently made my collection names too long because I can't see the whole names. I've tried to increase the size but there seem to be an upper limit to how wide it can be.

Does anyone have a solution for how I can make sidebar even more wide, or in some way get a listing of all collections in a text file or in some other way that makes it possible for me to read the names?

Hold down the Opt key while dragging the edge and you can go crazy wide.

Not sure what you mean by "crazy wide," but is there a way to do this on the PC? I've tried ALT, CTRL and SHIFT and I can't widen either side panel any wider than it already is.

In my case, they each take up one-fifth of the screen. Maybe this is as wide as they can go on the PC. Do they go wider on the Mac?

Photocitizen, I believe (ALT/OPT) is a Mac option only. My Windows had never allowed the panels to widen more than your clip.

That's correct, OPT does that on Mac, there isn't an equivalent on Windows. However, the original question from from a Mac user, hence the response Victoria gave.

On my Windows system I am careful about how I name collections so that the most important information remains visible in the limited width available. For example, instead of:
  • Warrumbungles Trip 2019
    • Warrumbungles Trip 2019 - Highlights
    • Warrumbungles Trip 2019 - Candidates for Instagram
    • Warrumbungles Trip 2019 - Candidates for Flickr
I would use the following:
  • Warrumbungles Trip 2019
    • Highlights - Warrumbungles Trip 2019
    • Instagram Candidates - Warrumbungles Trip 2019
    • Flickr Candidates - Warrumbungles Trip 2019

You could even drop the ‘Warrumbungles Trip 2019’ from the collection names completely, because that is already the name of the set. So:
  • Warrumbungles Trip 2019
    • Highlights
    • Instagram Candidates
    • Flickr Candidates
or perhaps:
  • Warrumbungles Trip
    • Highlights 2019
    • Instagram Candidates 2019
    • Flickr Candidates 2019

I'd prefer not, because I think it's good to have collections uniquely named. Otherwise I could end up with dozens of collections named, for example, "Highlights". That wouldn't be a problem when accessing the collection via the tree of collection sets, but it could be a problem when trying to create a smart collection - e.g. a smart collection to show images that are in the "Highlights" collection but are not in the "Flickr Candidates" collection, because of the difficulty of specifying the relevant collection names in the filter.

Fair enough, but because you already have the full name in the collection set, you could use an abbreviation in that case, such as 'Highlights WT 2019'.
