Hi - I am a new user to Lightroom. I have created several collections, but can't figure out how to move images from one collection to another. Let me explain what I'm trying to do -
1. I created a Collection Set for a project.
2. I imported images from a trip to Japan - choose 50 images and added them to a collection (Japan artwork piece).
3. I then went through LR and edited each picture pulling out just a section. First, I couldn't figure out if I should edit the original or a copy - I went with copy.
4. Once edited, I tried to save it back to LR, but PS CC19 made me save it to another folder (I wanted it to just save back to LR Classic, but couldn't figure out how to do that) so I created a folder on my desktop for the edited sections. Funny but some did save back to LR - not sure why.
5. I then imported the new folder from my desktop into a new collection (japan cropped images).

The few that actually saved back to LRC were in a different collection - I can't figure out how to move them to the japan cropped images collection. I keep trying to click and drag but nothing. So frustrating because I'm sure this is very, very basic. Thanks for any help.

You cannot move an image between collections by drag and drop. You can only add an image to another collection. The reason is that images can be in as many collections as you like, so drag and drop will simply add it to the destination. So if you want to effectively move an image between collections, then you add it to the second collection by drag and drop, and then remove it from the first collection,

By the way, there is no reason to use Photoshop for making a cropped version. You can create a virtual copy in Lightroom, and crop that.

And just make sure when you drag and drop that you drag from the image itself, not the frame that surrounds it.

Oh my gosh - that was it! I was dragging from the frame around the image. Wow- I must have tried 30x - something so easy yet so frustrating! Thank you!

I know in my case, I had so much experience with actual, physical slides that I have a great reluctance to handle the grid images by the image instead of the "slide mount." I do it the right way, but it still feels wrong.

Don't worry. You won't smudge or leave finger prints on the image unless you drag with your finger on a touch screen. :) [my statement is a joke, so no one take it seriously]

But don't you just hate touch screens for that reason.
