Lightroom Version Number
4.1
Operating System
  1. macOS 10.13 High Sierra
I had been running the latest/last of the perpetual license versions of LR (six point something). This was on a 2011 Matchbook Pro running High Sierra. I had originally purchased LR 4.1 and upgraded for free to whatever ... until I had to pay to upgrade to 6 (non subscription version).

Then I had a problem (with RAM, I think) that corrupted the boot SSD (got a black screen with a faint "no entry" logo) and a visit to the local Apple store genius bar required me wipe the SSD to reinstall the OSX operating system.

Now I am trying to get LR going again. I still had my original Adobe install DVD, and have installed 4.1 ... then after a while I got the alert within LR, that a "new software" was available ... 4.4 ... when I click on download, it launches a Safari page that does not contain any visible sign of the aforementioned 4.4

I did find a link via that page that took me to another page where there are links to download various versions of pre-CC Lightroom. ((If I log into my Adobe acct., I can't find any reference to the fact that I paid for the upgrade to pre-CC version 6. Somewhere I have an email that is a receipt from Adobe for that upgrade payment.))

Anyway, not seeing anything, anywhere for the aforementioned "4.4" upgrade download, I did download "6" ... but when I launch it, it asks for a S/N and I put in the one that came with my v4.1 DVD ... it says it's not valid for the just-downloaded v6 ... but it worked for the DVD install (4.1) !!

That is where I am at currently. Thanks for any tips !!

-Ron

Search hard for that v6 Serial Number Key.
Without it you are "up the creek without a paddle"- sorry to say. And Adobe are not selling v6 anymore, so I doubt you could even pay again for the v6 upgrade. (others may know).

Installing v6.14 from Download Photoshop Lightroom Does not require v4.1 to be pre-installed, but you must have both Serial Numbers for v4 and v6.

When you bought LR6 you paid the (reduced) upgrade price because you were upgrading from LR4. To get LR6 working you need to enter either...
1. A valid full LR6 license code, or
2. Your upgrade LR6 license code and then the LR4 license

If you purchased the v6 upgrade from Adobe, your v6 licence key should still be available on the Adobe pages, you need to login to your Adobe account.

I have found my v6 upgrade S/N by looking more carefully at old emails from Adobe ! ((as I said, when I log into my Adobe acct I can see no record of me having purchased the 6 upgrade, or its S/N. I think I used to, but suspect Adobe did something to the account's structure some time ago.)

I was able to successfully install 6.14 !!

Glad you found it, like I said, it should be there and hopefully the email can remind you which account you used. However, you tripped a thought that I should check to see if I can still find my old serial numbers and I can. They are found under 'register a product' (which was not the first place I looked!)

BTW, I keep a folder on my photo drive that holds the software installers and a copy of the serial numbers. Given the size of photos v the size of the installers, the amount of space consumed is trivial.

All the best.
