Hello again. I am once more in need of your help. I have LR 6 Stand-alone non subscription version. I have Windows 10 on my computer. The Lightroom Catalog is supposed to contain two items: LightroomCatalog.lrcat and Lightroom CatalogPreviews.lrdata. I was checking some things on LR and when just before I exited LR asked me if I wanted to optimize my catalog. I assume I must have let the LR have its way. I am looking at the Lightroom Catalog and now I see in addition to the LightroomCatalog.lrcat and Lightroom CatalogPreviews.lrdata, I have 3 new items in there: BackUp , LightroomCatalog.lrcat.lock, and LightroomCatalog .lrcat-journal . Are those three additional things supposed to be in there? How do I move them where they should be? If they are not supposed to be there how did they get there so I do not let this happen again? Thank You.

Fixed it ...I had an an open catalog. The .lrcatlock showed up so that there would be no other access to the file that is currently open. I exited LR . And they both went away. I found out that the Backup folder goes there by default. Now I need to learn how to move the Backup folder to an external hard drive.

You do that in the backup dialog.

Just a reminder the Lightroom backup folder is only your Lightroom catalogs and not any of your image files. You have to also backup all your images as a separate step.
