Hello all - back again so soon. Yesterday, when backing-up my LR catalog I had a message telling me that the catalog was corrupt and the LR would try to repair it next time it opened. Obviously, I re-opened it straight away and LR successfully repaired the catalog. However, now I find that none of my images (12,000+) have smart previews and that I have three versions of my catalog in Finder; the repaired one with no smart previews, the old "corrupt" one and a temporary catalog (which I can not open). So, my question is two-fold; do I have to rebuild all the smart previews and should I delete the "corrupt" catalog? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Did Lightroom rename the recovered catalog? If so, you could try to rename the smart previews in the same manner to see if that works. If not, you may indeed have to rebuild them. But do you really need 12,000 smart previews in the first place? For what purpose?

Could you show a screenshot of the catalog folder content?

Hi Johan - thanks for responding. Screenshot attached (including the cached "corrupt" catalogue file. As you can see, it's a bit of a mess and I have several old versions of LR there which I'm just to nervous to delete. Anyway, LR didn't rename the new catalogue; the Smart Previews file you see there is the new one that I'm now building. It wont be quite 12,000 previews as I am excluding rejected images (I tend not to delete those anymore either). I work on a laptop with my Library on an external drive (plus back-ups) and so prefer to build Smart Previews for all the images that I have or will work on. Again, not very efficient but it's part of the workflow I've become used to. I'll probably stop that when I finally get round to buying a desktop.

So you didn't try to rename the 'temporaryRepairCatalog Smart Previews.lrdata' to 'Gareth's Lightroom Classic Catalog Smart Previews.lrdata' like I suggested? Too late to do it now, so you can now delete these (and the 'temporary Repair Catalog Previews.lrdata' too). You can also delete that catalog in the 'Corrupt Catalogs' folder (or delete that entire folder).

No - I panicked and just started rebuilding the smart previews :-\ Oh well, it's only time. Anyway, good to know that I can go ahead and delete the temporary and corrupted catalogs; thanks.
