I have been using LR 6 CC and have experienced a very slow launch(start up) time. Roughly about 20 seconds from the time the splash screen appeared and the splash screen itself was sluggish to appear....

Have about 70,000 images, using an iMac late 2012, Yosemite 10:10.3, 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5, 16 G of memory and Nividia GeForce GTX 675 MX 1024 mg Graphics card.

On a whim I disabled using the graphics card in LR preferences and WALA.....had about a 4 fold decrease in launch time. Splash screen appears almost instantly and only 5 seconds to full launch of the program.

I had noticed some slowness while editing, but nothing dramatic. I have not done any editing since I switched off the graphics card, however the slow launch time of the program was quite annoying. So am very pleased with just this improvement.

Hello instanes,
I have the same issue. I have LR 6 CC. It was very, very slow to launch. So slow, I thought it crashed. I run Windows 7 64 bit with an i5, 16GB memory, and a Nividia GeForce GTX580 card. I also disabled the graphics card in the LR preferences and then it launched much faster. This is a real shame as I was really looking forward to an increase in speed by utilizing my graphics card. Hopefully, this is sorted out soon.

In theory, the use of the GPU option should make no difference to start-up times (it doesn't on either of my systems). Have you checked to make sure your GPU drivers are up to dat?

As has been discussed in another thread, it appears that Lightroom CC uses an internet connection to call home when it starts, and this may be causing the delay. I started to see it when I upgraded 5.7 perpetual to CC, so I don't think it's only v.6 related. (I am hanging on for 6.1, btw  ) Doesn't explain why switching off gpu changes things, of course, but I think the call home only happens once a day.

I disabled my GPU - GeForce GTX 760/PCIe/SSE2. LR is now running faster. Don't know why this should be, the nVidea GTX 760 is a recent graphics gaming card with a good specification.

Here's another data point… Launch time direct to various modules with and without GPU.

Nvidia GT530

To Develop
Disabled: Launch Time to Develop: 16 seconds
Enabled: Launch Time to Develop: 16 seconds

To Grid
Disabled: Launch time to Grid: 16 Seconds
Enabled: Launch time to Grid: 16 Seconds

Sensing a pattern here…

Hmmmm, since my original post I have had mixed results on launch times. Was not aware of the "call home" phenomenon as mentioned in the reply by davidedric. Am very suspicious that my long launch times were the first of the day, so to speak. Am going to do some experimenting and report back.
