Is it still current for Lightroom 2.6, and are dot (2.x) updates free?
Yes! No significant new features were added in 2.1 - 2.6, so all of the information is still current. The only main thing that's changed is the new camera profiles which were in beta when the book was written, which are now final and installed with 2.2 onwards. See this blog post for more details.
