Yes, should be able to copy them over to the new computer. Or just set a chunk running overnight. I'm not sure why it's stalling though - I'd probably try optimizing the catalog, see if that helps. I can talk you through how to fix the associations, but it's not likely to cause you a problem once you've done this first step.
